Taking control of your underfloor heating system

Deciding to install underfloor heating is one thing, but deciding on how you will control the system is another important decision.

Until recently, a single control for your entire home’s heating system would have been acceptable, but then again, you wouldn’t have a single light switch for the your entire house would you?

Zoning the Heating System

Underfloor heating lends itself to being zoned, dividing areas of your home into separate circuits that can be controlled differently. The more zones you have, the more underfloor heating controls you will need.

There are the obvious zones, such as the kitchen, living room, office and bedrooms, but you can also control special areas like en-suites, so its warm underfoot when you step out of the shower.

Central Control of your Underfloor Heating System

The more zones you have, the more carefully you need to think about how you will control the system. A heating control in each zone may sound ideal, after all its giving you the flexibility to control the heating and will reduce your energy consumption. But its unlikely that you’re going to take a walk all around your home to turn down each thermostat every time you go out.

A central control, like the Heatmiser Touchpad, puts you in command of up to 32 zones, from a single point. You can place the whole system in to Away mode, placing all the zones into setback mode, copy temperature levels from one zone to another and reduce the set temperature when you on holiday. You can also hold a temperature in certain "zones" for a number of hours, ideal for when you have guests.

If you work away or have irregular work hours, you no longer have to arrive home to a cold house.

Simply log on to your underfloor heating control system from anywhere over the internet via your PC, laptop, tablet or smart phone to set or change the controls for any part of your home ready for when you walk through the door.

If you can’t access the internet don’t despair. Simply send a text message to the control system and the heating and hot water will be on ready for you when you get back home!
